Accessibility
DollarSquaresSM should work for everyone, whatever device or assistive technology they use. This page says what we aim for, how the site is built to get there, and how to reach us when it falls short.
What we aim for
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That is the standard the U.S. Department of Justice references for websites under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and it is the one we test against.
How the site is built
Every product on DollarSquaresSM is a real link with a text name, so it works with a screen reader, a keyboard, a switch, or voice control without a mouse. The whole catalogue is also available as plain lists — on the homepage below the shelves, and on each district's own page — that need no JavaScript at all.
Specifically: there is a "skip to products" link at the top of every page; every control can be reached and operated with the keyboard, with a visible focus ring; the district tabs follow the standard arrow-key pattern; the product card that opens when you choose an item is announced as a dialog, keeps focus inside it, closes with Escape, and returns you to where you were; text meets the WCAG AA contrast ratio; nothing flashes; motion is turned off when your system asks for reduced motion; the page can be zoomed to 500% without losing content; and touch targets are sized for a thumb.
Known limitations
Product pictures come from Amazon and are decorative here — the product's name is the text beside each one, so a picture that fails to load loses nothing. Once you choose "View on Amazon" you are on Amazon's site, whose accessibility we do not control.
