a saucepan, a spoon, whatever cheese and lettuce are already in the fridge.

What to do

  1. Refried beans and the drained black beans into a saucepan with the taco packet and a splash of water. Warm, stirring, until it looks like it belongs in a taco.
  2. Shells in the oven for the minutes the box says. They stand up. Nobody chases a shell across the counter.
  3. Beans in, salsa verde over, jalapenos on. Cheese and lettuce if the fridge has them; the taco does not need them.
  4. Eat over the plate. It is a hard-shell taco; half of it will end up on the plate. That is the second taco.
